Earning Trust Before Asking – A Practical Guide to Major Gifts from U.S. Donors (Webinar)
What does it take to secure major gifts from American donors — and what can Nordic organizations learn from the way fundraising is done in the U.S.?
In this webinar, Thomas Young draws on 35 years of international fundraising experience to explore the principles and practices that drive major gift success in an American context. You’ll gain insight into how donor relationships are built over time, why credibility must come long before any ask, and how the major gift process differs from what many European organizations are used to.

Thomas brings a deep understanding of the Swedish context as well. He served as Campaign Director for Chalmers University of Technology’s first-ever fundraising campaign from 1995 to 1998, and most recently served as Vice President for Advancement at Gustavus Adolphus College from 2008 to 2026, where he was also responsible for the College’s engagement with Sweden. Now joining Brakeley Nordic as a Senior Consultant, Thomas brings this unique combination of American fundraising expertise and hands-on experience in Sweden to support Nordic organizations looking to engage U.S. donors.
Whether you represent a Nordic organization actively exploring the U.S. philanthropic market or you’re simply looking for fresh inspiration to strengthen your fundraising at home, this session offers practical perspectives and real-world examples that you can put to use right away.
The webinar is free of charge, and will be held in English. We welcome all kinds of Nordic not for profit organisations: universities, charities/NGO:s, and the cultural sector. Register by clicking the button below:
